Using Finda to get ranked higher

Finda is part of the Yellow pages group of websites, has high Google PR, is an authority website with Google, and has its entries used in the Google Local maps section in search results.

As a result, if I correctly word clients Finda listings, I can get the listings ranked high on Google in their own regard, as well as there being benefit flowing into the clients website to get the clients website ranked higher.

For $295 + GST per year plus $50 + GST for my wording the listing, I consider the Finda listings are well worth the investment.

Why have New Zealand VPS hosting / Virtual Private Servers when you can have a dedicated server with many times the resources and low monthly charges.

What is shared hosting

Not all hosting is created equal. The first hosting that you generally get is New Zealand shared hosting, then you find out about the cheap international hosting. You may migrate to a reseller account on shared hosting, then virtual private servers, dedicated servers, and load balanced dedicated servers. Shared hosting is when your website is on the same server as many other of a web hosts clients. While you personally might have a reseller account, that will be in addition to many other clients having reseller and single shared hosting accounts.

Shared hosting and database servers

Sometimes you will have a database server on another machine. The database server connection can be rather slow. So while its great to give other machines some of the database grunt work, a separate server can also have its drawbacks.

Shared hosting and email

Email can take up a large amount of server resources, and is better hosted on another load balanced group of servers. Often email is stored on the same shared server, and this is another reason why your website response time can go down.

Shared hosting and email newsletters

All it takes is for a busy forum to have a few replies to large threads, or a website send out a newsletter, and server resources can be maxed out very easily.

Response times of International v New Zealand Hosting

The speed of light is a rather important consideration. At around 200ms to the USA compared to less than 30ms in the same city, where you host your website compared to your main traffic can be an interesting consideration.
